My Highlight of This Year

My favourite highlight of this year is when we have basketball game every Friday and the athletics. That was my favourite part because I spend a lot of time with my friends playing basketball and we had a lot of fun. I was so happy that we had a lot of fun playing basketball together.

The athletics this year was fun and intense because there are some fast people. The worst thing that happened to me on athletics is when I was doing my discuss with my sprain finger. I sprained my finger on my left hand and i'm a left handed, so I normally throw with my left hand, but I still tried my best to do it. On 100 metres sprint I came 3rd, it was really intense because they look fast. On the first heat I came 3rd, I thought I was winning but one of them smashed me on the 60 metres and I loss.

I had a lot of fun this year with my friends and I tried a lot of challenges that I don't wanna do but I still tried my best to try some new hard things. Being year 8 is really fun and being a leader for year 7's.

Christmas Celebration

So we were told to do DLO  about Christmas around the world or we could do a DLO about our Christmas celebration on our own country, so I wrote a DLO about our Christmas celebration at the Philippines. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Summer Learning Journey

Roald Dahl is a famous book writer. Roald Dahl was born in 13 September 1996, he died in 23 November 23 1990. His nationality is British. Roald Dahl is famous for writing 38 books.

So the purpose of this blog is to talk about the book he wrote called BFG so I will be telling you guys what is BFG. So in BFG there was a really tall old man he was walking around the street and then this girl saw him named Sophie when the old man saw her looking at him Sophie pretends to sleep then the guy tried to grab her trough the window and take her to his house. For me that what's the BFG looks like. 

Summer Learning Journey

Hi, Today our topic is about (Summer Learning Journey.) So we were told to open our device and sign up for summer learning journey, if you don't wanna join the summer learning journey you could pick no, so there was question that says like if you wanna join in.

So Hi, I'm Gerald, I'm year 8 and I'm from Hornby High school. I play sports at school like basketball and football. My main sport is basketball, I've been to nationals before in Tauranga and Rotorua. So in Tauranga I was playing for the Christchurch basketball team It's called Waitaha and we loss the tournament. In Rotorua I was selected to tryout for the under 14 New Zealand basketball team and if you get selected you will go to Australia and play there.

So at school I love doing Writing and P.E because they are fun. P.E is my main subject we have it every Monday and Thursday. I love P.E because It's really fun and I love sport that's why I love P.E
I'm looking forward to do some blogs on vacation for this summer learning journey, I will be so busy because I will be going to Philippines next year, so I hope that I can do blogs as many as I can while I'm in the Philippines.

I'm looking forward as well to my reading I think I need to improve in that. I think I will be able to participate in summer learning journey because I will be so busy at holidays because I might have a lot of basketball tournament like I did last year in holidays, I was so busy of doing basketball tournament I went to north Island twice to play there.

I need to achieve doing blogs everyday as many as I can, I really wanna do the summer learning journey but I'm gonna be so busy in the holidays. Summer learning journey is interesting because if you did something in the holidays you could write a blog about it. I'm pretty sure that some of us will go to another places to enjoy their holidays and you could write a blog about it. That's what makes summer learning journey interesting.

Freak The Mighty

Today I made a blog post about our novel book, our novel book called (Freak the Mighty.)  So on our task it says there, "on you blog, write 10 creative sentences, each one using of those words. In your sentence I need to clearly see that you don't understand what that word means." So on my task I choose 10 words to create a 10 creative sentences using my own words.

Freak the Mighty

Today I've posted a blog about our novel book. The title of the book is Freak The Mighty. So I made an slide about our novel book, I hope you guys like it.

Chapter 3: 

There is an old man who forgot to walk, he was trying to reach something and he can't do it because he doesn't know how to walk. He throw the crutch and he land with his hand and knees and crawls back to his house.

DLO/Kiwi BIrds

I'm doing research about kiwi birds so that other people can learn more about New Zealand animals. For those people who don't know about Kiwi birds you can check my blog or you can show it to other people so that they can learn more about New Zealand animals.

Orana Park

On Monday we went to Orana Park. Before we went to Orana Park we stayed in learning commons for like 20 minutes and we waited for the bus, the bus was a little bit late we waited for 10 minutes. So while were waiting for the bus the teacher let us to go outside and have some fresh air and talk with your friends, so after 5 minutes the bus already arrived in school, when the bus arrive the teachers called us to line up, Every person has a number 1 and 2 so if your in the 1 you will be with Mrs Birtch, if your 2 you will be with Mrs Tozer. They made a group because there will be a two tour guide so the two groups will be separated when we go to Orana Park.

When we arrived at Orana Park the first thing we visited is Meerkat, it looks cute because it so small. After we visited the Meerkat, we went to spider monkeys house to see them in their they were hiding because the weather was really windy that day, that's what the tour guide said to us. Next we went to kiwi birds house to see them and know a little bit facts about them. Kiwi birds are known in new Zealand as their national animal, Kiwi birds doesn't like leaving in the day they like leaving in the darkness. My favourite part there was when I feed the giraffe. It's really fun to be there.

MathsChallenge

Scratch Reflection

Last week we did scratch, scratch is like you can make a game and you can design anything you want.

So today we also did scratch, I made a bedroom and it looks cool. You can put a person on the bed you can put anything you want. You can change the background, you can turn it to basketball court, football field and baseball field or a city. Scratch is really fun because you can design anything you want and you can make a game by just using scratch. 

CIP DLO

Ella West

Today we went to Hui because we're gonna listen to the famous book writer her name is Ella West. Ella West is a book writer, she is the one who wrote the Night Vision and Rain Fall. She tell some story about Night Vision. There was a kid who got skin problem if he went outside in the morning or afternoon his skin will get burnt. That's really tough because you can't go outside and have some fresh air, he can only go outside in the dark night, if he goes outside his wearing the night vision goggles. It's really cool that he can see everything in the night.

Some student in the Hui ask some question of how many days does she have to take to write a book, she told us that she wrote 1000 words in one day and she does a lot of thinking that's why it took a lot of hours. She told us that she wrote 50,000 words in the Night Vision so that means she took 50 days to write the Night Vision book. It's she wrote all the words for almost 2 months, that's pretty hard to do it.
Ella West has a Italian Night Vision book, It's really cool that she can understand Italian words.

Ella West lives in Dunedin she just went here in Christchurch to go on other schools to tell some story about what she did or what she experience about writing the Night Vision book and the Rain Fall. The Night Vision book looks interesting to read and I would like to read the book that she made. I hope you guys read her book it sounds interesting to read, I hope you guys get inspired of what she did to write those books.

Digital Technology

Hi, today i'm gonna talk about what we did in digital technology. So in Digital Technology we've been doing a lot of work and we've been busy for almost 3 weeks. In digital technology we've been doing the research template. So in research template we need to choose an issue, The issue I'd choose was ethical because I think it's for those people who's got bad attitude, they can learn something from this topic.

I choose ethical because It could help other people this issue could have big impact to our world and to other people. Sometimes people chooses to do the thing than to do the right thing. People throw a rubbish anywhere even though they knew it was the wrong thing to do. This kind of topic is really good for us.

In the fast few weeks we've been doing research template and most of us were already finish. Digital tech could have a big impact to other student, this learning can help other student. They could learn how to respect the environment. Ethical could help student to respect, to do the right thing and to have good morals something like that. Learning is important to our life, it could help you in many ways.

Maths DLO

In maths we've been doing this task called splitting strategies.

P.E Hurumanu

Today in our P.E hurumanu we were working on our chosen sport. The sport we choose was called tchoukball, so in our chosen sport we did some warm up and a drill. So for warm up we run around the gym to make our body and muscle ready for the drill that were gonna do for our chosen sport. So in our drill we put a trampoline in a bench and we tried to jump and throw the ball to the trampoline. Throwing the ball to the trampoline is how you get a score in tchoukball, so you have to jump and throw the ball to the trampoline So we did that for our drill and it's really fun. 

Our group was so depress when everyone in our group we're yelling at each other because everyone has a different ideas but when the teacher came to us to fix the problem the team did so well and they really enjoyed being the part of the group. 

Anton Lienert-Brown

In community impact project we've been working hard to make a poster and a video about all blacks, check out my blog and other's blog you will see a very great work that we've been doing. It's really really great that we receive a message from a all blacks player named Anton Lienert-Brown, we were really happy about what we've receive this week. Thank you Anton for noticing our very hard work and thank you for those people who put a lot of effort for the all blacks, kept on inspiring them encouraging and supporting them even though they loss.

Our learning has a big impact to us and to other's this kind of project could inspire other sport's team or other people like Anton Lienert-Brown we all inspired him and the all blacks team to what we did in our community impact project it's a really really great work kept on making an effort to make them inspired and kept playing for our country. They always do their best to win for our country. Were really proud of you guys you've been putting a lot of effort to just win.

All Blacks

Last week I made a poster about all blacks to inspire them and encourage them to what they doing. So that's my poster about all blacks  I hope you guys really like it. 

P.E Hurumanu

On our hurumanu last Monday we did octopus for warm up because were gonna do something really challenging. So we did seats up, vertical jump, flexibility etc. and I did pretty well. Today we did beep test in our P.E and I got 10.1 which is really good for me. It was really fun and challenging. The most difficult thing was when the level got high you have to be more faster, when you got to level 8 or 10 you have to do 12 laps and you have to be faster. I'm glad that I beat the highest level. The highest level was 9.8 and I got 10.1, That's really good for me.

I think I need to improve something on what we did in our P.E hurumanu. I think I need to improve my seats up becuase when I got to 15 I got tired easily so I think I need to improve it. What can I do to improve my seats up? I probably need to do seats up every morning and afternoon to improve my seats up.

Doing this kind of stuff is really good for our body It can help you to get fit and healthy. This really important mostly to those people who eats a lot of cholesterol food, like junk food. Junk food is like an oily food. oily food is not really good for our body because it can cause you an heart attack. If you eat a lot of oily food the oil will go trough your vein and it will block your blood to go to your heart. Our heart needs blood so It can kept on pumping. This is the reason why fitness is really good for our body.

So in art we did filming and drawings. So our main story is about cleaning the environment. Our story called Clean Our Nation. What did I do in our group? So In our group I was the person who always drew so if they asked me to draw that or draw this. I am the responsible person to do it. What is the story mainly about? So there was a boy who was walking and he saw the river was full of rubbish and he made a plan to clean the river, so he called his friends to help clean the river and after 3 weeks the river was clean now. If you can see the yellow highlighted there that was my goal. I choose the goal because sometimes I don’t listen to my group.
	What I learned:  I learnt how to be a responsible person and I learnt how to do a lot of things at the same time. The yellow highlighted there is my goal because sometimes I don’t know what my next step is.
	What I enjoyed: I enjoyed doing a lot of drawings and I enjoyed being with my group. The two highlighted goals there was the most important thing for me because sometimes I don’t complete the work that they ask me to do. The second goal I choose is I understand other’s opinions and ideas. I think I need to do that because sometimes I don’t listen to other people's ideas.
	What I found difficult: I found the drawing too difficult because I don’t normally draw. My goal is that I can be trusted to use my device for the task I am meant to be doing. I choose that goal because sometimes when I’m bored I go to my device and search up anything I want and I knew that was wrong, So I think I need that to be my goal.

KidsCan Charity?

Hi guys, today I wrote about KidsCan charity. I hope you support them and I hope what I wrote about KidsCan charity.

Reading.

1.) What are we doing this term in reading? Were reading a novel book and the author is called Roald Dahl.

2.) By only looking at the back cover, what can we infer or guess about the story?
The character was a fox and the other character looks like a farmer.

3.) After reading the back cover, what do you think the story is about? Make a prediction on what will happen. The fox looks like a hunter and a stealer. He probably goes to farm and steal some chicken.

4.) Using your prior knowledge, Why do you think I selected this book for us to read?
to make our reading skills better because if we go to year 9 and 10 we will be reading a lot of novel book so our teacher was just getting us ready for next year.

Hurumanu art

In hurumanu we've been doing this kind of stuff, were writing about the story that our group made. So I wrote the whole story that we made I hope you get inspired and I hope you like it.

There was a kid named Matthew who was really upset to what he sees. He saw the lake was full of rubbish and it was very stink. The kid was feeling unhappy for the fish and some animal who lives in the lake. Matthew wanted the environment to be always clean, so he called his 3 friends to help him to clean the lake. Instead of riding a bike and playing games they decided to just help their friend to clean the very stinky dirty lake. 

So they brought a plastic with them and they e After 2 weeks the lake looks beautiful but the smell was still there but it’s not that very stink anymore. When the other people saw the lake they were surprised by what they saw. There was an old man who sees them cleaning the lake so the man tried to find those 4 kids and he saw them in the park playing so the man called them and the man said, “I will buy you all the lollies you want.” They were really happy to what they heard from the man.

The old man brought them to the supermarket to buy the lollies they want, they really enjoyed getting the free lollies and they were really thankful for the old man. The man asked them why they cleaned the lake, they said that they want their country to be clean. The man was surprised to what he heard from them because they were just 8 years old and their mind looks like 18 years old. The man was really happy because he wasn’t expecting that there would be a kids that would do that to just make sure their country was clean and safe.

Maths blogging

Today we did maths so in maths we did problem solving so now we were just doing a blog post about what we've learnt today. So in the white board there's some question that was written up, so now i'm gonna be answering those question that is written up on the board.

What was the activity? So the activity that we did is problem solving with 4 groups of people.

What strategy did your group try? We did adding because it's more easier.

What did you find challenging? The other question were challenging but the other question were not. The most challenging is when you counting up to like hundreds.

How well did your group work together? 

We work pretty well no one is talking about other things they were just talking about what we've been learning.

Were you successful? 

Yes because I always help with the hard question and I always communicate. 

It's Cool To Be Kind

Today we've been working about kindness. So I made a slide about kindness, I think were doing this so that if people went to our blogs they will see this stuff. This is really important to other people mostly to other kids, if they went to our blogs they would see this and maybe someday if they grow up they would do this kind of stuff like helping other people and making others people's day. 

Basketball Winter sport

Last Friday we won our basketball game even though we only have 5 players in our team and we still won. It was a fun basketball season, we all have fun and we did really well. It was very successful basketball year, out team work is very well and our communication in basketball was really great.

I think this basketball season is better than last year. 

I would like to thank all the teachers who supported us in basketball even though it's not part of their job, so I wanna say big thank you to Mr Mitchell, Mrs, Birtch, and Mrs Davis and also our coach Tim. They did really great and they our very supportive.

CIP

Last Wednesday we wrote a letter for the paper plus for the colouring competition. So we requested for a prize for the colouring competition, So we choose Hornby primary to do our challenge. So there will be a group of people who will do the drawing for the Hornby primary student.

So Hornby primary student just need to colour the drawing that  Hornby high school did for them and we will choose who has the most beautiful colour on their drawing and we will give the person a prize who won the colouring competition. The prize that we will give is from paper plus. This is the reason why we request a prize from the paper plus. 

Maths DLO

Hi guys. This my maths DLO. So on this maths DLO I am explaining what I did on the fast few days, so the maths work I'm working on is about taking away just play the slide and you will see what I did. 

I really like this maths work, sometimes it's hard but when you try to learn really hard it will be easier for you to do it.

Hi Today I will be sharing what I learnt in Japanese languages.

So I will be writing the words that I learnt I will translate it in English.

(Shumi) It means Hobby 

(Sakkaa) It means Soccer.

(Hajimema shite) It means nice to meet you.

So this what we learnt in Japanese, my goal is to learn how to write a Japanese letter.

  

CIP/Colouring competition.

Today in community time we made a group of 3, so my group mate name is Alex and Jullien, They were the people that I choose to be in my group because they can work well with others and they are responsible person.

So in community time we talked about colouring competition, so we decided to have 3 pictures to colour in and with ages group like year 5 and 6. So many primary student like to have a colouring competition. So this event will probably take 2 days because some other student might missed this colouring competition like some other primary student. They might not come to school on the first day of colouring competition so for me i'm giving 2 days for this event so some other student can have a chance to try this competition. 

Having this activity is making people to relax and it makes them really happy.
