Workshop: SEXXXY Paragraphs

Scene - 'They Don't own me' - Dialogue is used to create a foreboding atmosphere.  Katniss and Peta are having a conversation about how the upcoming games might affect them. This is demonstrated by the quotes "I don't want them to change me," and " If I'm gonna die, I still wanna be me" Spoken by Peta. These show that Peta has a sense that he is going to have to do things that he doesn't want to have to do like kill others. This makes the audience feel sorry for Peta because he is likely going to die or kill others to study alive.  The director did this to make us believe Peta will die early and that being a tribute isn't something to celebrate but a loss of personal autonomy. This worked well with the dark colours of black and greys which add to the foreboding atmosphere. This aspect can be contrasted to when Peta joins the career pack once in the games because they are cold-hearted killers which is what Peta didn't want to be.

Brainstorm - Angles/Movements/Shots - Over the shoulder - shows speaker puts us in listeners P.O.V makes us part of the conversation.

Music

Lightning Colour - Mood - sad - gloomy - greys, darks, dim lighting - works with C/U to highlight emotions on faces

Atmosphere - Forebonding, nervous, Reluctant, Hesitant

Workshop #5 Music

Tempo - speed of the music - fast/slow/moderate

Dynamic - volume - how bud or quiet it is

Key - major - happy sound, minor - sad sound

Rues Death - How is music used to create atmosphere: depressing/sad/mournful. minor, tempo-slow, dynamics-quiet, gets louder as Katniss raises her salute and District II riots. Directors Purpose: feel katniss emotions at that moment - remorse, anger, helplessness, acceptance rebellion.

- symbol of the three-finger salute is a sign of defiance and anger towards the game makers - you will take my humanity, also a symbol of unification with those who have lost loved ones to the games.

- What happened - Rue is killed, katniss tries to give her body the closest to a burial that she can.

- colour/Lightning - While flowers, natural lighting, greens stand out,

Symbol - innocent and pure, rue never killed anyone, kind, compassionate, victim.

- Shots/angles - medium close-ups - Rue and Katniss - see their emotions and facial expression - anguish

- high angle - weak and vulnerable - Rue is an innocent and blameless victim.

Effect on the viewer - the atmosphere of remorse/intense sadness, as the volume increases it builds the intensity of the emotions - we see emotions are contagious - hope.

Music is used to create an atmosphere of sorrow and remorse in Rue's death scene. In this scene we see Katniss dealing with the slaughter of her young friend Rue. For example. the tempo is slow, the dynamics are quiet and the key is minor to reflect the emotional rollercoaster that Katniss is feeling. Like the music, Katniss moves slowly and methodically to cover Rue's body in writing flowers.

As she finishes, the music builds in volume, showing the increasing intensity of her anger and grief towards the capital. This makes us understand the pain experienced by the families of the tributes when they are killed each year. This was done to enable the viewer to feel the character emotions. This worked well with the use of white flowers to symbolise Rue's innocence and purity and the high angle shot making her weak and vulnerable Combined with the music we are shown first rue is a victim of the cruelty of the capital.

Esol/Reflection

  • What was the best lesson and why? The best lesson was when we were asked to write an essay. It was easy because we can choose any topic that we'd like to write about. Writing an essay was the easiest thing to do because I like writing a lot. So far this is the only work that I've put so much effort into, I was so focused and I didn't wanna even get distracted but back then I was easily distracted and it would ruin my work. So the best work so far that I did was writing an essay.
  • What did you enjoy doing and why? I enjoyed writing a lot. I don't actually do so much work for this class but when we were asked to write something I did a lot of writing and it was fun because writing is my favourite to do in class. I also enjoyed the test last term. We did a spelling test and I got a perfect score. I enjoyed doing the spelling test because I'm really good at spelling.
  • What was one task you were proud of and why? The task that I am proud of was the essay we wrote last week, I did a lot of writing and I think that made my teacher proud because I actually don't do so much work for her class,  so when she saw my essay writing she said some positive words and I was very happy that I finished some work.
  • What is something you could do differently/better next term? I would say my behaviour in class. I am easily distracted and sometimes I'm very loud and uncontrollable when my friends do something funny and I'II just laugh as hard as I could. My behavior needs to change so that's what I'm doing next term. I also need to do some work because in this class I don't do so much work, so that's probably what I could do differently next year.

Blog Reflection

1. What you have been learning about? We've been learning about our place which is canterbury and what is our favourite thing to do.

2. What went well? What did you find interesting? I like using Prezi because they're easy to use and the template design they're very cool to use, it makes everything interesting.

3. What did you find challenging? what could you have improved on or done better? I should've written more details about my favourite things to do in canterbury. I just wrote a few details on it, maybe next time when I have enough time to do it.

Here's my link for my Prezi, Hope you like it!

The Reaping Scene

  • She volunteered as a tribute when her sister is chosen.
  • The people of the District give her a 3 finger salute.
  • Peta is chosen as the male tribute.
Hope and Rebellion: 3 finger salute- it is a sign of respect for katniss from the people of the district.
Katniss is a symbol of hope for a district victor.
Katniss is a symbol of rebellion because she steps in for her sister ( a weathered                                            character) when she is reaped.
Rich vs Poor: symbol Effie trinket - extreme makeup, wig, hat, overly colorful and flashy outfit, proper accent.
Technology - use of blood readers/ scanners, projectors.

District 12 - Children's outfits for reaping are their best clothes, dresses, shorts - collared, or pants, colors

What Hitler said about the Jews

The Jews were responsible for bringing negroes into the Rhineland with the ultimate idea of bastardizing (lowering the quality of) the white race which they hate and thus lowering its cultural and political level so that the Jew might dominate.”

“The Jewish youth lies in wait for hours on end...spying on the unsuspicious German girl he plans to seduce.....he wants to contaminate her blood and remove her from the bosom of her own people. The Jew hates the white race and wants to lower its cultural level so that the Jews might dominate.”

Free Writing/Matrix

Last Friday I went to my friend's house to sleep over, I was with my brother.  Before we came there me and my brother just finished doing basketball training so we were very tired. The time we came there was around 9pm and that's when we started playing games and we finished at 6am. literary played games all night, we only had like 10 mins to rest until we can play games again, I was very tired and almost fell asleep around 5 but we bought some energy drinks to stay awake. So that's all, we enjoyed the night and it was really fun.

Hunter Swoop

Top left-hand corner

The dark walls lightened up with lights and paint.

Swing across to the top right-hand corner

The walls are shiny with those lights above him.

Swing down to the bottom

The ground is bright but dull.

Swing round into the middle

The narrow tunnel that is dark and dull was visited by an unknown person.

Plan your short story.

The narrow dark tunnel is very dull but it was lightened up with lights and those colourful sprayed paints were visited by an unknown. The tunnel is a bit creepy but it is known for its horror story, she tried to walk past through it and nothing happened. she was happy that she passed the tunnel safely.

Brainstorming/Enlgish

                          Animal Testing Should Be Banned?

Animal testing should be banned because they don’t deserve to be used as testing animals. We people should treat animals as a pet because they’re kind if you're nice to them.

English/Brainstorming

Plastic bags should be completely banned.

I would agree that plastic bags should be banned because they're killing our ocean. We should be using those reusable bags so that we don’t just throw them away because they would go straight in the ocean. Marine lives would be the first ones that will be affected, mostly these sea turtles were the most affected when it comes to plastic pollution. We should ban these plastics. If not it will kill our ocean.

English/Brainstorming

New Zealand should get rid of the speed limits.

I think that is not a good idea for the drivers because if that ever happens many people will be in a critical situation or they will die. Having no speed limits on our road is very dangerous because people won’t be able to know what speed limit they should be driving. People would just probably go for 100-speed limits while some others would drive on a very low-speed limit, and that’s a very high chance of being involved in a car accident.

Tourism/SOST

What is Eco-Tourism? Tourism directed towards exotic, Natural Environments, and Wildlife. It also can be defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserve the environment.

Why is it a growing trend? So that people would continue to protect their cultures and environmental spaces. It is important to protect our environment it's only for us but for the next generation.

How can tourism help our oceans? They can explore our ocean's and reefs by diving and they can be a huge influence on water pollution, they could make a trend about how is our ocean-going, people should know about what's happening in our ocean so that they can do something as well not just the other people. They can be also a huge influence on overfishing and bycatch because bycatch and overfishing are not healthy for our ocean and coral reefs, they kill too much fish and it's not good for our coral reefs and for us. Probably they could stop it by their huge help.

Reflection/Wellbeing

Factor 1: Screen Time

Factor 2: Workout

Factor 3: Friends

For the past few days, I've been doing fine on my well-being assessment, Mostly on doing the factor 1 and 2. The ones are giving yourself a break and the two's are about workout and stuff. The factor 3 I kinda feel not doing well at it because It's hard to stay away from your friends even tho they're a bad influence on me, so I kinda need to improve that area. On factor 1 I've been doing well at it because I have data where it shows how many hours I've been on my phone, and as I can see I am improving so fast. On factor 2, I kinda feel I need to improve more a little bit because sometimes I don't wanna do it. Today I need to do 40 sit-ups, 40 Russian twists, and 40 Russian sit-ups for my 3 weeks workout wellbeing assessmenty.

Sustainable Fishing

                           Sustainable Fishing

How is commercial fishing a threat to dolphins and birdlife?

Overfishing also threatens the dolphins' porpoises' life. 300,000 dolphins are killed each year bycatch, including the whales. Dolphins are being caught with the nets that people use to catch fish in the ocean, and the worst thing is, before they put the dolphins back in the ocean, the dolphins were already dead because they can’t breathe. Commercial gillnetting has been killing so many dolphin species, like Hector Dolphins, and Maui’s Dolphins. Dolphins are being killed faster than they can breed in three decades. 23 Hector's dolphins die each year in gillnetting. Also with the bird's life, they are dying because of the rubbish. 14,400 sea birds are dying each year because of rubbish.

Newspaper Article/Trashing Our World

               Newspaper Article

A Great Pacific Garbage Patch is known for the pacific trash vortex. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is located near Japan, and the eastern garbage patch is located between the U.S,  states of Hawaii, and California.

This ocean is almost entirely made up of tiny pieces of rubbish, called microplastics. This area is polluted by a lot of rubbish, it is killing 1 million seabirds and 100,000 Marine Mammals every year as well as many other species.

Polluting rubbish is a really bad impact on the environment and on the fish that is living in the ocean. People should avoid throwing rubbish into some random places. It could wash up into the sea and it could affect the saltwater fish, and if they die, the coral reefs will die too and the other many species of fish. If our ocean dies, we will die too, because the ocean produces over half of our world’s oxygen.  Dolphins and whales are dying because of people that keep polluting our oceans. The rubbish keeps killing our marine fishes because the rubbish turns into microplastics, and of course, the fish will not be able to see them, so they’ll accidentally eat them and die because it’s really unhealthy for them.

The people protect the beaches and reduce some pollution from ships. They contain landfills so they don’t spill in the ocean. They’re picking up rubbish as much as they could because if it washed up into the ocean, one single plastic could kill many fishes or more.  People have this type of object that captures and collects the debris in the ocean so that’s really good for the environment.  The really good thing about this is that many groups of people are trying to help and support to avoid and remove ocean pollution.  Some people are trying to use nonplastic when they eat and drink, mostly when they buy something in the supermarket they bring their own bag to avoid spilling rubbish in the ocean.

English/Term2

P.E class wastes students' learning time.

P.E class doesn't waste a student’s learning time, because P.E is part of the learning, and it teaches students how to be fit and healthy. P.E is not only about sport, it’s also about being healthy, diet, body control, learning new things, and some other sorts of active stuff. I don’t agree about the topic because many people find happiness in sport and they could help you to distract yourself when you’re going through some problems like depression or family issues.

P.E is actually about learning, it teaches students how to improve their health and personal wellness. That stuff that people learn in P.E is really important because It’s about body control, wellness, and health. If School doesn’t have a P.E subject that is very unhealthy for their students, they must learn how to be fit. There are so many things that you could learn in P.E not just on other subjects. Try new things and challenge yourself.

Millions of people participated in Cebu City last Sunday to celebrate the Sinulog Festival, one of the most famous festivals in the Philippines. It was attended, not only by Filipinos, but people coming from different parts of the globe also went to witness the celebration. The magnificence of the festival made Filipinos, as well as our fellow Asians, refer to it as the “Mother of all Festivals”. From the colorful and well-made costumes of the dancers to the beautiful dances and to the music brought by the drums, trumpets, and the native gongs, the Sinulog Festival never ceases to amaze its audience.

For 32 years, the Sinulog Festival is a traditional celebration in Cebu City held every third Sunday of January to honor the Santo Niño (Child Jesus). Basically, the festival is done by a dance ritual, in which it tells the story of the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity. The word “Sinulog” means “graceful dance”, wherein it all started in 1980 with a simple dance that represents the “sulog” (or current) of a river in Cebu.

With the celebration’s evolution, the Sinulog Festival has become a month-long tradition in Cebu. The most-awaited feature, nevertheless, is the Sinulog Grand Parade which was held on the 15th day of January. “One Beat, One Dance, One Vision. Cebu – the City of Culture” was the theme adopted for the 2012 Sinulog Festival.

As the festival becomes more and more famous each year, tourists would never want to miss the opportunity to watch it and became more and more commercialized. The festival now, not only consists of costumes and dances, but also contests, such as art exhibits, beauty pageants, photo contests, and singing and dancing contests. Participants may also join the festival’s activities, such as concerts, cultural shows, fireworks displays, fun runs, and street fairs. For the past 18 years, it has made the Filipinos residing in New Zealand celebrate their own version each year, proof of how big of an influence the festival is. It has also been recognized as the “City of Culture” by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The 2012 Sinulog festival embraced the perks of technology, as it was broadcasted live on major television and, for all the people in the world to see, it was also streamed online.

With the overwhelming amount of people who wish to witness the traditional celebration and the beauty of the culture it depicts, this grand festival remains as Cebu’s proudest attraction, along with the beautiful beaches and historical places.
