Chromatography

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Definition: A technique for separating the different parts of a mixture / solid using liquid.

Rainbow paper

Materials;

1. Cup.
2. Paper.
3. water.
4. Green colour .
5. Red colour.
6. Ruler.

Process:

Step 1: You need a cup.
Step 2: you need a paper.
Step 3: Get a colour pen.
Step 4: you need to get a ruler and make a dot on a paper using green, red colour.
Step 5:  put a water on in but don't put to much on it because it will not work.
Step 6: wait for the colour to go up.

Findings: Write about what happened. It the was successful the colour is was amazing, the colour goes up.

Reflection: What have I learnt from this experiment? I learnt how to do it really sensible.

Skittles

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Materials;

1. Circle container.
2. Green skittles.
3. Orange skittles.
4. Purple skittles.
5. Red skittles. 
6. Water.

Process:

Step 1: Get the skittles container
Step 2: Get a the skittles.
Step 3: Form it into diamond shape.
Step 4: Don't move the table when your forming it into a diamond shape. 
Step 5: get a water.
Step 6: pour some water on the container don't put too much water because it won't work. 

Findings: Write about what happened. The experiment was a little bit messy because the colour mix up. 

Reflection: What have I learnt from this experiment? I learnt how to not make the colour mix up. 

What did the colours do? It mix up.
Did the colours mix together? Yes because the table was shaking while were doing the experiment. 


Extension:

What is another experiment you could do using chromatography and how would you do it. I could do the same experiment that we did but using different colour.

  1. Kumusta Gerald. I like how hard you were working on your blogs in class today. You have earned your point for your Skittles write up, but please go back and add your findings and reflection to your rainbow paper write up. Those are two of the most important parts!

    I wonder if you could explain more about your extension activity. Do you mean you would repeat the activity but with different coloured pens?
